葉竹妍
Born in Zhejiang,
China and currently living between southern coast of China and the US, zhuyan ye makes images and sound, performs
and writes to respond her experiences of present impasse or transitional moment
in ordinary life. She walks around the marginal spaces of the cities she has
lived in and drawn to people’s agency facing their gentrified personal spaces.
She talks back into time in an absolute discontinuity while working to develop
alternative structures of communication. The ideal space for her is porous, air
flowing and changing or allowed to change. zhuyan witnesses the movement from
daily objects and performs as the objects. She accepts illness and death numbly
and disciplines them into writing and pictorial memory.
The incoherent sensorium in zhuyan’s practice is situated in the context of immigration, queerness and geopolitics in East Asia. In the forms of moving image, performance and auto-ethnography documentary, zhuyan is currently working on an on-going project initiated with questions around “parking”. zhuyan also organizes events and conversations as a way to wave a web of flight.
